I know, I know.
Where have you been? There’s this
old saying that goes like this, “If you can’t say something nice, then make
sure you post it on Facebook.” No wait,
that can’t be right. With all of the things
have not been positive in my life as of late, I figured that sometimes things
are better left unsaid. So I didn’t say
anything at all.
I spent the
year 2012 working on discovering/rediscovering myself. Thus, for my first blog of the year 2013, I
thought I would reflect on the idea of resolutions (yawn – I know – how
original). I did not have any intention
of going down this worn-out and over-trodden road, but I recently came across this
inspirational piece called the Holstee Manifesto. I was amazed at how much of it paralleled my
journey of self-discovery over the course of 2012.
Now I will be the first to argue that unless
you’ve written it yourself, there is not much chance that you will agree with
every point of a manifesto, and that certainly holds true here as well. But it’s a solid jumping off point if you are
looking for somewhere to get your own inspiration for your leap list or credo
for the road ahead.
The Holstee Manifesto
This is your LIFE.
Do what you
love, and do it often.
If you don’t
like something, change it.
If you don’t
like your job, quit.
If you don’t
have enough time, stop watching TV.
If you are
looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you
start doing things you love.
Stop over
analyzing; Life is simple.
All emotions
are beautiful.
When you
eat, appreciate every last bite.
Open your
mind, arms, and heart to new things and people.
We are
united in our differences.
Ask the next
person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them.
Travel
often; getting lost will help you find yourself.
Some
opportunities only come once; seize them.
Life is
about the people you meet, and the things you create with them so go out and
start creating.
LIFE IS SHORT. Live your dream and share your passion.
So what did I do in 2012 that relates to this
manifesto? If you go back and look at my
previous posts, I obviously made some changes.
Ø I
pretty much stopped watching TV
Ø I
didn’t like the status of my marriage so I filed for divorce
Ø I
opened my heart to new people and made some new friends
Ø I
stopped fighting with myself about accepting my body the way it is
Ø I
took on a physical challenge and participated in a 5K race
Ø I
seized the opportunity to visit another state and spend some time on my own
Ø I
reconnected with some friends I had not seen in a l-o-n-g time
I plan on continuing my trend of growth and personal
discovery in 2013. I recently became
even more inspired to speak up and stand out regarding an issue I have been
silent about for too long. I am about to
start a ruckus and no one is going to stand in my way! More to come on that in my next blog (which
will not take me two months this time).
So here is a little ditty about what a difference
a year can make and how simple it can be to set out on that journey:

“This Year” by Meghan Tonjes
The change is your responsibility,
